BMIS 212. Intro Coding for Data Analytic. 3 Credits.
This course is an introduction to coding and analytics techniques. No Prior Programming or coding experience is required. The course covers coding constructs with the Python programming language including: Statements; Decisions; Repetition; Functions; Arrays; Lists; Maps; and more. An introduction and use of analytic libraries such as Math; AI; ML; Stats; Graphics and more is included.
BMIS 298. Cooperative Education. 1-12 Credits.
A planned and supervised work-learning experience in industry, business, government, or community service agencies related to the University program of study. Prerequisites: Two semesters of attendance at Montana State University-Northern, approval of advisor, Dean of the College of Technical Sciences, and cooperative education coordinator. Pass/Fail only.
BMIS 311. Management Information Systems. 3 Credits.
Concepts of Management Information Systems from a business perspective. Major areas of business and the information systems that support those areas are investigated. MIS projects utilizing database and spreadsheets will be completed. You must have access to Microsoft Office software including MS Access, Excel, and Word.
BMIS 312. Data Analytics II. 3 Credits.
This course provides a broad overview of data mining and analytics. The course defines the concepts of data mining and machine learning and delves into database of varying types and their relevance to the filed. The importance of data visualization for communication purposes is explored along with the processes of data cleansing, clustering, and classification. Prerequisites; CAPP 156, BMIS 212.
BMIS 313. Data Extraction&Transformation. 3 Credits.
This course will cover the fundamentals of data access and cleaning. This will include data extraction and export technologies such as Structured Query Language (SQL), Query By Example (QBE), Application Programming Interfaces (API), and others. Topics will include connecting to data sources, retrieving data, cleaning data, utilizing data, converting data, and sharing data. Some of the file formats utilized will include Comma Separated Values (CSV), Java Script Object Notation (JSON), Excel (XLS/CLSX), and Extensible Markup Language (XML). Prerequisite: CAPP 156.
BMIS 391. Special Topics. 3 Credits.
Courses not required in any curriculum for which there is a particular one-time need, or given on a trial basis to determine acceptability and demand before requesting a regular course number.
BMIS 392. Independent Study. 3 Credits.
Provides an opportunity for students to engage in directed research and study on an individual basis rather than in a formal class environment.
