LSH 107. Global Travel Experience. 0.01 Credits.

This 0.01-credit co-requisite course is designed to support students participating in MSU-Northern's study abroad programs. This course is taken alongside any designated study abroad course.

LSH 132. History of Rock and Roll. 3 Credits.

This course discusses the development of Rock and Roll within a social and cultural framework. The course highlights significant performing artists and groups from historic eras and explores sociological, cultural, and psychological factors that shaped Rock and Roll as a cultural phenomenon. This course is based in a popular culture approach to understanding the impact of Rock and Roll in American Popular culture.

LSH 201. Intro to Humanities. 3 Credits.

A survey of the humanistic disciplines: literature, philosophy, music, art, architecture, and theater designed to help students identify those qualities that make each discipline unique and to discover commonalities among these disciplines.

LSH 292. Independent Study. 3 Credits.

Provides an opportunity for students to engage in directed research and study on an individual basis rather than in a formal class environment.

LSH 298. Cooperative Education. 1-12 Credits.

A planned and supervised work-learning experience in industry, business, government, or community service agencies related to the University program of study. Prerequisites: two semesters of attendance at Montana State University-Northern, approval of advisor, Dean of the College of Technical Sciences, and cooperative education coordinator. Pass/Fail Only.

LSH 301. The People and Culture Abroad. 3 Credits.

An interdisciplinary examination of the people, culture, and social structures of the host country or region associated with study abroad experience. The course meets once per week prior to the travel period, providing students with cultural, historical, and social frameworks that prepare them for immersive learning abroad. Through readings, discussions, media, and preparatory assignments, students examine cultural traditions, historical foundations, and contemporary social issues relevant to the host location. Emphasis is placed on cultural awareness, comparative analysis, and ethical engagement. Course content varies by location while maintaining consistent academic outcomes and expectations. Prerequisite: LSH 107. Global Travel Experience.

LSH 322. Art and Philosophies Abroad. 3 Credits.

An interdisciplinary exploration of major artistic works and philosophical ideas associated with the host country or region during a study abroad experience. The course meets once per week prior to travel, providing students with aesthetic, historical, and philosophical frameworks for engaging with works of art, literature, theatre, music, and architecture encountered abroad. Students analyze master works of the humaniites to understand their artistic form, cultural significance, and philosophical context, while also examining the creative processes behind these works. Course content varies by location while maintaining consistent academic outcomes and expectations. Prerequisite: LSH 107. Global Travel Experience.
