BIOO 380. Zoology. 4 Credits.

This course is devoted to the exploration of the structure and function vertebrates and invertebrates. There will be emphases on nervous systems and the mammalian brain, including the study of the evolutionary history of vertebrate and invertebrate systems. The laboratory component of the course is designed to give students a hands-on experience with the macroscopic and microscopic assessments of multiple species. Prerequisites: BIOB 170/171 Organismal Diversity and Evolution.

BIOO 381. Zoology Lab. 0 Credits.

The laboratory presents an integrated study of vertebrate and invertebrate structure and function, covering basic anatomy and physiology of multiple organisms. The laboratory incorporates readings and discussions of relevant peer-reviewed scientific articles, with the opportunity to present materials. The laboratory allows for 'hands-on' practical application of learned topics and concepts covered in the lecture portion of this course. Prerequisites: BIOB 170/171 Organismal Diversity and Evolution.
Course Fees: $13.75

Courses not required in any curriculum for which there is a particular one-time need, or given on a trial basis to determine acceptability and demand before requesting a regular course number.

BIOO 391A. Special Topics Lab. 1 Credit.

Courses not required in any curriculum for which there is a particular one-time need, or given on a trial basis to determine acceptability and demand before requesting a regular course number.

BIOO 392. Independent Study. 3 Credits.

Provides an opportunity for students to engage in directed research and study on an individual basis rather than in a formal class environment.

BIOO 475. Mammalogy and Lab. 4 Credits.

A course for biology majors and students who plan to take additional courses in biology. This course investigates the description, behavior, ecology and evolutionary history of the taxonomic group Mammalia. In addition to anatomy and physiology, behavior and ecology are examined. A review of taxonomic orders includes the most recent phylogenetic information on biodiversity. Parasites and zoonoses (vector and non-vector) that result in disease are discussed and related to rapidly changing climates. Students also discuss challenges associated with mammal conservation and how these are confounded by climate change. Prerequisites: BIOB 170/171 Organismal Diversity and Evolution Lecture and Lab.
